Urinary Tract Interventions

The ureters are long, narrow tubes that carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder. Sometimes, ureters can become blocked due to blood clots or kidney stones. A uretal stent is a soft, hollow and flexible tube threaded into the ureter by an interventional radiologist to unblock the ureter.

During this procedure, the uretal stent is placed through the skin on the patient’s back into the kidney to open the ureter and restore the flow of urine into the bladder. If used to treat a kidney stone, it helps to reduce the pain caused by the stone and improve the function of the kidneys.
