Pain Management

Epidural Steroid Injections

Also known as ESIs, epidural steroid injections are an effective treatment for many forms of chronic pain within the body. They have been used for decades to treat sciatica, back and neck pain, joint pain and more. An ESI involves the injection of a local anesthetic and a special steroid medication directly into the source of the pain. It reduces inflammation, which can reduce or eliminate pain, increase mobility and eliminate or reduce the need for other medications.

Facet Injections/Nerve Root Block

Facet joints are the connections between the bones of the spine. Nerve roots pass through these joints and connect the spinal cord to various parts of the body. A facet injection or selective nerve root block is performed by an interventional radiologist—using image guidance—to inject a local anesthetic and/or steroid into a facet joint. This can help block the pain signals from the nerve and provide relief.
